Types of Hearing Aids
There are five styles of hearing aids:
| Open fit – open fit hearing aids are small devices placed behind the ear with a slim tube attached to the device and inserted down the ear canal. They are non-occluding. This style is good for people with a high frequency hearing loss or mild to moderate hearing loss. They help you hear better when background noise is present. |
| Behind the Ear (BTE) – are often slightly larger then the open fit models. They sit behind the ear and are attached to a custom earmold. Batteries tend to be slightly larger in this style and will last longer. |
| In-The-Ear (ITE) – this style of hearing device sits in the concha bowl of your ear. They are easy to manipulate and often come with push buttons and volume controls to allow for program and volume control changes. |
| In-The-Canal (ITC) – this is a slightly smaller custom product that allows for discretion. |
| Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC) this is the smallest custom product that sits hidden down the ear canal. The often do not have volume controls and require more frequent changing of batteries. |
