UPCOMING EVENTS…

Demo Days are back
If you are one of our patients who came to see us but just weren't ready to try hearing aids yet, Demo Day may be for you. Or maybe your spouse or friend might like to try hearing aids on to see what life might sound like.
Demo days are October 21st and 22nd. On these days attendees will have a hearing test and then your hearing loss is entered into the software and the aids are adjusted by a professional from Phonak. All those who attend Demo Day will be eligible to receive $300 off a binaural set of hearing aids (see clinic for details). |

EAR CANDLING - Does it really work?
The answer is no. In fact ear candling is dangerous and has no proven medical benefit. Ear candling became popular in recent years as an alternative therapy which reportedly can remove wax from your ears, among other medicinal benefits.
Proponents of this method say that the flame creates warmth and suction, which draws the wax out of the ear canal. In fact there is no scientific proof to support this claim but plenty of scientific evidence that it can cause damage. So much so that Health Canada published a report warning people against ear candling. Health Canada's Medical Devices Regulation states that the sale of ear candles for therapeutic uses is illegal. There are some believers in the ear candle that get around this rule by selling it “for entertainment purposes.” There is nothing entertaining about a flame in your ear canal. If you think you have wax, we can safely and effectively remove wax using a variety of tools that are more effective and safe. |

VOICE For Hearing Impaired Kids
Wellington Hearing Care was a proud sponsor of the annual Voice for Hearing Impaired Kid’s conference. The conference is held every year in Guelph (lucky for us), making it easy for us to attend! This year the theme was “Music to My Ears.”
There were some great speakers and a lot of laughs. I encourage families to attend this fabulous event. Plans are in the works for next year’s conference already so mark your calendars for the first weekend in May. The theme for next year is I Feel Good. They will be approaching the topics of Social and Emotional Development of children and youth with hearing loss and implications for families who support them. The conference is for parents, professionals and teens.

Wellington Hearing Care Sponsors The Walk for Juvenile Diabetes
Brianne is one of those patients at Wellington Hearing Care that energizes the room when she enters. She is vivacious and full of life.We were proud to sponsor her in this worthy cause. Many people aren’t aware that diabetes can cause hearing loss. Hearing loss is about twice as common in adults with diabetes compared to those who do not have the disease.
According to a new study funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), "hearing loss may be an under-recognized complication of diabetes.” A senior author of another study from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), suggested that people with diabetes should consider having their hearing tested. |
